ARAHIA Director Karl Wixon specialises in envisioning, co-designing and achieving positive futures through leadership, strategy, change, growth and innovation.
He brings a marriage of commercial, creative and cultural acumen to all he does and is frequently called on as a skilled Māori co-design facilitator to weave together complex collaborations spanning cultures, sectors, entities and interests to develop shared visions, find direction, and co-design solutions. Karl has led pioneering strategic and transformative projects across a wide range of sectors spanning design to cultural heritage, health, housing, education, tourism, fisheries, primary sector and economic development, both in New Zealand and offshore, including a contract to develop regional economic development strategy for Northern Manitoba in Canada through a highly collaborative co-design process working with First Nations, Industry, Communities and Provincial Government. A past President of the Designers Institute of New Zealand and a founder of Ngā Aho Inc, the Māori Design Society, Karl has held numerous leadership roles, including Ministerial Appointments to the New Zealand Story Advisory Board and Te Mana Whakahaere, the governing council of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. He has received awards in Māori Business Excellence, Design and Directorship. Karl is of Ngāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Moriori and Pākehā Descent. |
