ARAHIA Pathfinders Managing Director Karl Wixon works at the intersection of culture, commerce and creativity designing futures and making shift happen. He is frequently called on as a skilled facilitator weaving together complex collaborations to deliver insight informed impactful solutions benefitting people, place and planet.
Karl has led pioneering projects across health, education, housing, tourism, climate, primary sector, creative sector, cultural heritage, language revitalisation, indigenous cultural and intellectual property, national identity, enterprise, trade and economic development.
Karl is a co-founder and recent past Co-chair of Ngā Aho Inc the national Māori Design Society and past President of the Designers Institute of New Zealand. He has held governence roles in education on the Toi Mai Workforce Development Council (current), governing council of Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and school boards, governance roles in tourism on the board of Hawke’s Bay Tourism and a Ministerial Policy Advisory Group for Regenerative Tourism. He was also a founding Ministerial appointed independent board member for NZ Story responsible for promoting New Zealand globally.
Karl is of Ngāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha, Moriori, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Pākehā (English, Irish, Prussian) descent and has received awards in design, Māori business excellence and aspiring directorship.
